We completed our final harvest of Vintage 2024 over the weekend, and it's been a brilliant season.

 

Despite a cool spring and early summer, a heat wave in early March jump-started the 2024 Vintage ten days earlier than 2023. We kicked off with Sauvignon Blanc from our Haines vineyard, followed closely by Viognier, Semillon & Malbec from our home vineyard in the Kohinoor Hills.

 

Our maritime climate creates a longer ripening period, which extends our harvest a few weeks beyond neighbouring wine regions. With Shiraz, Tempranillo and Cabernet Franc all fermenting, our final week saw the harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon and bush-vine Grenache.

 

The quality and quantity of fruit has been extremely positive. Adding a third vineyard at Cygnet River to our portfolio, with new varietals like Pinot Noir, has returned our production quantities to pre-bushfire volumes.

 

A highlight for vintage 2024 has been welcoming the next generation to The Islander Estate Vineyards with Yale’s son, Wynn, joining the team full-time.

 

While it's early days, we are particularly excited about our Vintage 2024 wines, such as our barrel-fermented Malbec, which looks exceptional.

 

Our new-release wines are always shared first with our Discoverer's Wine Club members.  We anticipate our first Vintage 2024 hitting the shelves in late spring.

There are so many reasons to drink white wine in the cooler months, especially those with a little more texture.  Explore our team's favourite cool season white wine pairings:

 

Pétiyante NV Sparkling Chardonnay/Pinot Noir:

Beautifully balanced with a fine bead, elegant acidity and creamy texture complimenting hints of nashi pear and white peach.

Cool Season Pairing:  We're fans of sparkling all year round.  In the cooler months, pair it with the umami flavours of truffles or mushrooms in a creamy risotto.

 

The White Chardonnay:
Slightly toasty with peach, nectarine, melon and toasted nuts. The fruit sweetness is offset by steely, refreshing acidity and a long finish. 

Cool Season Pairing:  Roast herb chicken or prawn pasta.

 

Semillon Sauvignon Blanc:

Not your average SSB blend.  Barrel fermented and aged for 12 months in seasoned French oak barrels. It has hints of citrus and tropical fruit, a soft round palate with elegant acidity drawing out the finish.

Cool Season Pairing: Classic fish or chicken and leek pie.

 

Wally White Semillon:

Our signature white is rich and textural from barrel fermentation. Its mouth-filling notes of lemon curd and vanilla custard are bound together by mouth-watering natural acidity. It's always refined and elegant.

Cool Season Pairing: Wally White with crisp roast pork is a flavour sensation.

 

Fume Blanc - Small Batch Release

This new release is a nod to the Sauvignon Blanc wines of the Loire Valley, famed for their slightly smoky perfume. Varietal notes of tropical fruit, lemongrass and sea spray are layered with secondary characteristics from oak aging like vanilla, honey, floral, and toasty notes.

Cool Season Pairing: Roast cauliflower pasta, Chicken Saltimbocca.
