2019 Cabernet Franc

2019 Cabernet Franc

The Cabernet Franc grape varietal has a history that dates back to the 17th century in Jacques' native Bordeaux.  Cabernet Franc’s claim to fame is as one of the parent grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, the result of a crossing with sauvignon blanc in the 1700s.

Jacques has worked with Cab Franc as a supporting wine in Bordeaux blends his entire career.  On Kangaroo Island it takes centre stage, showing it's true potential as a single varietal.

This is our first release of Cab Franc in the varietal range - priced for everyday enjoyment.  The grapes are hand-picked, wild fermented in 400L French concrete tanks with 4 weeks on skin contact to extract maximising colur & body but retaining the elegant savoury fruit character.

Rather than being dominated by classic capsicum & tomato leaf character, this wine expresses red fruit (cherries, raspberries, stewed cherries) on the palate.  Soft tannins come in mid-palate & carry through to an elegant finish.

Tasting Notes
Wild fermented in 4000L foudre concrete vats, spending 4 weeks on skins. An everyday version of flagship The Investigator Cabernet Franc. It's a deliciously settled wine that weaves together a range of red to crimson fruit notes, without the herbals and pungent leaves often seen in the cabernet class. Juicy and textured at the same time, exact delicate bitters and lightly cast tannins give this a touch of everyday class. Tony Love Published 01 May 2021
