2019 Cabernet Franc
The Cabernet Franc grape varietal has a history that dates back to the 17th century in Jacques' native Bordeaux. Cabernet Franc’s claim to fame is as one of the parent grapes of Cabernet Sauvignon, the result of a crossing with sauvignon blanc in the 1700s.
Jacques has worked with Cab Franc as a supporting wine in Bordeaux blends his entire career. On Kangaroo Island it takes centre stage, showing it's true potential as a single varietal.
This is our first release of Cab Franc in the varietal range - priced for everyday enjoyment. The grapes are hand-picked, wild fermented in 400L French concrete tanks with 4 weeks on skin contact to extract maximising colur & body but retaining the elegant savoury fruit character.
Rather than being dominated by classic capsicum & tomato leaf character, this wine expresses red fruit (cherries, raspberries, stewed cherries) on the palate. Soft tannins come in mid-palate & carry through to an elegant finish.
